Over a period of nearly 5 years Classictrial has been manufacturing and supplying GRP (glass reinforced plastic) fuel tanks for the Honda TLR 125,200,250 twinshock trials machines, using original tooling made by ourselves, which has been improved and refined over the years to help provide a better fit and to reduce weight. We are currently offering very special prices on tanks, for customers who would also like to have chassis modifications carried out in conjunction with buying a tank.  Cheaply made copies of original Classictrial GRP products are available, but as with anything you get what you pay for, so we would recommend a degree of caution in relation to these mouldings.


Our Honda tanks have proved particularly popular as using one to replace the bulky steel OE tank on a TLR200, really does make a big difference on a bike being used in serious competition. Our Honda units closely resemble the HRC manufactured GRP tanks fitted to the RS250TA machines, so retain an authentic factory appearance as well as improving function.

All Honda units can be supplied fully finished to exactly suit customers’ individual requirements and ready to fit to a bike. We are able to help with dual colour gel coat finishes, and a popular option is a partially finished dual colour unit, which after the application of the supplied decal kit, and final clear coating results in an appearance similar to that of the units shown above. We can also supply single colour units, with white and red being popular choices.   


Obviously though some riders do need to keep within a strict budget, so we also offer bare units (no seat pad or fitting kit), made using a special grey gel coat, designed to accept a painted finish. These units are manufactured using the same high quality materials and proper production methods that are used for all Classictrial GRP products. This means that problems with high alcohol fuels, that can be a major problem with improperly made fuel tanks, are something that we have eliminated entirely.

Other than the budget units described in the last paragraph, all of our Honda tanks come complete with all that’s needed to fit them to your bike with the exception of the fuel tap that can be transferred from original TLR200 tanks (new ones are also easily available).  Fitting takes around 30 minutes, and very detailed written instructions are provided with every tank. In the unlikely event of any sort of problems, we are always very pleased to help and can be contacted either by phone or email.


The Honda units contain approximately 3.5ltrs of fuel, weigh approximately 2.7kg, billet CNC machined alloy fuel caps are standard fitments,  tap fittings are BZP plated M14 steel, front of tank is flexibly mounted (not budget), which means that air cleaner can be serviced after removal of one M6 bolt, and fuel hose, rear of tank is mounted on neoprene rubber cushion, using a single M6 bolt through rear mudguard, in line fuel filter is supplied (not budget), as OE filter must be removed from stock Honda TLR200 tap.

It’s also worth remembering that Classictrial GRP products have been tried and tested in British twinshock championship level events, and the 08 championship was won by a rider using one of our GRP tanks (Phil Wiffen, 300 Fantic).  


Finally all of our GRP mouldings are fully guaranteed against any manufacturing defects, for six months from date of purchase, with the strict proviso that any specific damage caused by use in competition conditions or by improper fitting is not covered under any circumstances. However as we try very hard to avoid second rate materials and dodgy back garden manufacturers, problems are very rare, but you can rest assured that we will do everything we can to provide proper help and support, in the unlikely event of anything supplied by Classictrial proving any cause for concern.
